ある記事に、外国のビジネスマンが、「日本人と英語を話すときは、イディオムを避けて、できるだけ、お堅い英語を使わないと通じない。」と話しているという内容が載っていました。
例えば、” He came up with a good idea.”
というよりは、”He thought of a good idea.”
と言わないと通じないというわけです。
これにはなるほど～と思いました。
以前のメルマガにも書きましたが、言いたいことを回りくどくなく、一言でガツンというにはイディオムが大事ですし、イディオムがわからないと、相手が言っていることがちんぷんかんになります。
そこで、またクイズ形式でやりますね。
