前回のメルマガでは、ChatGPTを使って英語の日記を書き、添削してもらう方法をご紹介しました。
今回はもう少しレベルを上げて、英検のライティングのような短いエッセイ形式で練習する方法をご紹介します。
英検2級や準1級では、80～100語程度で自分の意見を書く問題がよく出ます。
この形式はとても良いトレーニングになります。
なぜなら、自分の意見をまとめる力、理由を説明する力、短い英語で論理を作る力、が同時に鍛えられるからです。
例題
Do you think students should use AI tools for studying?
Write your opinion in 80?100 words.
ChatGPTに入力するプロンプト
まず、自分で英文を書きます。（文字数に気を付けて 80-100は厳守！）
その後、その文章をChatGPTに貼り付けて、次のようにお願いしてみてください。
Explain grammar mistakes, word choice, and unnatural expressions.
Also tell me if my ideas are clear and logical.
After the explanation, please show a corrected version.
つまり、
文法の間違い、語彙の選び方、不自然な表現、論理の流れを説明しながら添削してもらう、という方法です。

意味は通じますが、いくつか直した方がよいところがあります。
添削ポイント
(1) so の前のカンマ
AI can answer many questions quickly so students can save time.
〇
AI can answer many questions quickly, so students can save time.
英語では長い文のとき、接続詞の前にカンマを入れる方が読みやすくなります。
(2) 冠詞が抜けている
without asking teacher
英語では単数名詞には通常、冠詞が必要です。

または
without asking their teacher
(3) Also の後のカンマ
Also they can study anytime
〇
Also, they can study anytime
接続副詞の後にはカンマを入れると読みやすくなります。
(4) become lazy は少し不自然
students become lazy
意味は通じますが、少し単純すぎる表現です。

students may rely on AI too much
の方が自然です。
(5) depend の後に目的語が必要
not depend too much
→ 何に依存するのかがありません。
〇
not depend too much on AI
(6) 論理のつながり
最後の文の前に
などを入れると、論理がはっきりします。

英語ライティングを上達させるコツは、書く → 添削 → 理解 → 書き直すというサイクルを繰り返すことです。
添削を読んで「なるほど」と思うだけでは、まだ十分ではありません。
なぜそこが直されたのかを理解し、もう一度自分で書き直してみることが大切です。→これほんと大切！
ChatGPTがなかったころは、生徒さんの添削をAIの代わりに私がやっていました。
直して、説明して、書き直させるの連続です。
ChatGPTは、この練習を毎日できるとても優秀な添削パートナーになります。
まずは80～100語くらいの短い英文から、自分の意見を書く練習をしてみてください。
きっと、ライティングだけでなくスピーキング力も伸びていくはずです。
